The Club
The Lethbridge Soaring Club is a group of glider pilots and enthusiasts who have established a sustainable soaring group in Lethbridge. The club was officially incorporated in April 2013 as the Lethbridge Soaring Club. We have operated two gliders. The first is a Schweizer 2-22EK, a two seat glider popular for training, our aircraft (C-FXUB) being manufactured in 1966. The second is a Grob Twin Astir Trainer, also a two seat trainer but a high performance fiberglass ship. After several seasons using only the Grob Trainer, we sold the Schweizer 2-22. The LSC trained with the Central Alberta Gliding Club in the fall of 2013, and in April of 2014 took flight from Claresholm Airport for the first time! After a successful first season the LSC has worked to establish a permanent operation in Cowley, AB. We have flown from the Cowley Glider Strip since 2014, erected a permanent steel hanger, and fly using both tow plane and winch launch. Our club has trained new instructors, taught students how to glide, thermal, and soar in the wave. Come out to join us and experience the benefits of soaring with a club!
